Thoughts From the Homecoming Basketball Scrimmage

Tags :

Apologies.

I went missing in action like Pitino’s assistants with their bags of Adidas money.

(In actuality, I’ve been swamped by school stuff. I’ve said it before, but engineering is no joke. My back to back tests earlier today went about as well as that Tulane game…)

Anyways, I’m back. At least for this article. Hey guys.

Questions During a Rollercoaster Season

Does anyone remember Bell’s Amusement Park? As a Tulsa lifer, I remember going there many times. Those who have lived here for a while definitely recall Zingo, the park’s main roller coaster.

Bell’s and Zingo may be gone, but anyone who has followed Tulsa basketball this year has likely felt the same pitfalls in their stomachs.

Previewing AAC Hoops for 2016-17

Tags :

As of writing this piece, this fine Christmas Eve eve evening (I’m clever, I know…), Tulsa has one game left before beginning American Athletic Conference play. Tulsa sits at 6-5, with a clear upward trajectory shining golden through the early season murkiness. Improvements across the board, clear from both the box score and the eye test, make this an encouraging season for this Hurricane team that’s as new as what’s under your tree this year. Although we have briefly covered the new players here, and talked about the tournament TU is in the midst of right now here, we have only just gotten full swing—or full shot, perhaps—into basketball season. Tulsa is the reigning Miami Beach Bowl champion, and now it is time to finally shift our eyes from the gridiron to the hardwood.

New Player Comparisons for the 2016-17 Basketball Team

Tags :

After watching two exhibition games and one “real” game, I’ve had a bit more time to learn about this year’s Tulsa’s men’s basketball team. These are my updated my player comparisons. They aren’t perfect, and were mainly scribbled on napkins in much the same way that J.K. Rowling supposedly first wrote out her ideas for Harry Potter. Except, instead of napkins, I used a smartphone. Anyways…

Anger After Navy

Tags :

Our apologies for not recording a podcast following this past weekend’s football game. The University of Tulsa prides itself for its education. “A Top 50 Private University!” the commercial brags. Unfortunately for start-up student-run sports blogs, this means there are weeks where a multitude of tests, lab reports, and homework assignments take precedence over sharing our thoughts regarding whatever sporting events took place recently. Again, we apologize and appreciate your understanding.

Also, this is absolutely not to say that I don’t have thoughts following that Navy game Saturday morning in Annapolis.

Thoughts on Tulsa’s Win Over Memphis

Tags :

A 59-30 win against the team ranked 47th in the country by CBS Sports on their homecoming night was a great revenge for last season’s loss in our own homecoming game. This was a complete game; easily Montgomery’s best game in his two years in Green Country. Despite the overall dominance, a few things really stood out:

Defending the Defense

Wow. During Saturday’s game against #4 in the nation Ohio State, an unfortunate series of events saw a ball deflect off of receiver Keevan Lucas’ hands and into the hands of a diving Buckeye defender.

On the first play of the game.

On the road.

Against a team that won 77-10 last week.

Possible Landing Spots for Keyarris Garrett

As former Tulsa wide receiver standout Keyarris Garrett did not make the Carolina Panthers final roster, I considered the other possible teams he may end up with.

A Reminder to Take It Easy

As I sit here typing this, I have no idea where I want this article to go. And perhaps that is something that points to a bigger idea.

I am a college student. I had to look up how to close window blinds on YouTube because I couldn’t get my apartment blinds closed. I am absolutely still trying to learn how to be a functional member of American society. I don’t think I’m doing a particularly bad job of it thus far, but I will also openly admit that I have made, do make, and will continue to make mistakes.
