Bleacher Report Lists Dane Evans As Under-The-Radar QB

Tags :

Bleacher Report released a list of their top 10 “Under-The-Radar” QB’s for 2016 last week, and they included Tulsa’s Dane Evans. I invite you to check out the article here.

It is nice to see a Golden Hurricane get national attention, and rightfully so for Dane. Evans thrived in Philip Montgomery’s offense last season throwing for over 4,300 yards, and racking up 25 touchdowns. Now with almost two years of experience under his belt, we have every right to expect that Dane will put up similar, if not better numbers in 2016.

Evans is sure to garner even more national attention in the 2016 season if he finds his groove early. NFL Scout lists him as the 33rd best QB in the 2017 draft. Although he is only 6 foot, I expect that number to climb, not fall.

With the departure of Paxton Lynch and Keenan Reynolds from the conference, Dane is right up there with Houston’s Greg Ward Jr. as the AAC’s best QB.

I am eager to see arguably the best QB in the conference throw it to the best receiver in the conference, September 3rd can’t come soon enough.

I had Wil Hefley in my chem I and II classes last year. I saw him in Organic chem lab last week and asked if he thought he would get any snaps this season. He, expectedly, said he didn’t know and mentioned that Dane would get most snaps. I replied that I’m sure coach Montgomery realizes that any player is one play away from injury and it would behoove him to get at least snaps for the backups (like when TU is way behind or way ahead). Chad President got a few last year, but those were in predictable situations and therefore not very successful since opponents know his reputation as a “dual threat.” Wil was a highly-touted recruit as a Arkansas prep qb and has good size (6’4″). I hope he gets some snaps.

According to the QB position breakdown on the Tulsa Rivals site, Will won’t be getting snaps unless the top three quarterbacks get hurt.

It might be an interesting battle once Dane graduates, contrasting styles for Will/Ryan Rubley vs Chad/Luke Skipper.
