The QB Battle

Tags :

The past two years Tulsa football has had the luxury of knowing exactly who their QB was. Every Saturday the players, the coaches, and the fans all knew and accepted that Dane Evans would be the signal caller. This year, Tulsa does not have that luxury.

5 Players That Stood Out In Saturday’s Spring Game

Weeks of practice finally culminated to the annual spring game last Saturday at H.A. Chapman stadium. Coming off one of the best seasons in school history, the Golden Hurricane stormed the field with optimism, confidence, and a bit of uncertainty. Last season it seemed the question surrounding Tulsa football was “What is this team’s ceiling?” After the notable improvement in 2015, expectations were sky-high for Monty’s 2016 squad, and boy they lived up to the hype.

For the 2017 squad, it seems the question is “What is this team’s floor?” There are certainly proven commodities on this year’s team (Brubaker, Brewer, the offensive line), but TU lost captains on both offense and defense, the leading passer in school history, a 1,000 yard rusher, and two 1,000 yard receivers. That is a lot to replace, and with a tough non-conference slate against 4 teams that went to bowl games last season, Tulsa will have to find answers to those questions early.

Ranking Tulsa’s Football Uniforms

Tags :

I am a self-proclaimed uniform connoisseur, and I have constantly been analyzing and critiquing Tulsa’s new Adidas uniforms throughout this year. This season Tulsa did not repeat any combos, which means we had 13 unique looks. I ranked those uniforms below, enjoy.
The results to the fan survey are below my rankings.

Vote for your favorite uniforms!

Tags :

I will be posting my rankings of all the uniforms Tulsa wore this year after Christmas, but Codie Mullins on Twitter suggested that we let the fans suggest their opinion as well. I liked that idea, so I created a google form, rank your favorite uniforms by clicking here.

I know it can be difficult if you don’t love uniforms like I do, but I want to hear everyone’s opinion so please take 5 minutes to fill it out. I’ll post the results whenever I rank mine after Christmas.

Thanks guys!

Game Preview: Central Michigan

Tags :

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane is taking their talents to South Beach, as the face off against the Central Michigan Chippewas. The selection of the bowl was disappointing to fans, as the time, location, and opponent is not what anyone was hoping for. ESPN ranked this game as the 36th most entertaining bowl game out of 41. Bill Simmons’ new website The Ringer had a different perspective…

Join our Bowl Mania Group!

Tags :

TU fans, we made a bowl group on ESPN for friends of Reign Cane Sports, join it by clicking the link here.

Don’t particularly have anything in mind for the champion, but I’m thinking that if we ever get around to making t-shirts the winner will be first in line.

Bowl Projections for TU

Tags :

With only 2 weeks left in the college football season, it is finally an appropriate time to look at the possible bowl destinations for Tulsa. TU will be seeking their first bowl win since the 2012 Liberty Bowl, and potentially a 10 win season. Here is a look at where various sites predict Tulsa to end up.

Anger After Navy

Tags :

Our apologies for not recording a podcast following this past weekend’s football game. The University of Tulsa prides itself for its education. “A Top 50 Private University!” the commercial brags. Unfortunately for start-up student-run sports blogs, this means there are weeks where a multitude of tests, lab reports, and homework assignments take precedence over sharing our thoughts regarding whatever sporting events took place recently. Again, we apologize and appreciate your understanding.

Also, this is absolutely not to say that I don’t have thoughts following that Navy game Saturday morning in Annapolis.

Game Preview: Navy

Tags :

All eyes in the conference this week will be on 7-2 (4-1) Tulsa @ 6-2 (4-1) Navy. Not only is it Veteran’s Day weekend, but it will also senior day in Annapolis. The winner of this game will be the favorite to win West division, and host the AAC championship (Yes if Tulsa and Temple win out, Tulsa will host the championship game.)

Both Tulsa and Navy have outperformed expectations this year. For Navy, they were picked to finish 3rd in the West, and 43rd in the nation by USA Today. Tulsa was picked to finish 4th in the West, and 66th in the nation. Yet, here we are in mid-November, Tulsa and Navy are both fringe top 25 teams, and tied for 1st in the West. That is why we play the games folks.

This is an 11 am C.T. kickoff. Despite Navy’s 11-game home winning streak, Tulsa opened as a 1 point favorite. It has since shifted from Tulsa -2.5 to now at the moment Navy -2.5. Regardless, Vegas and everyone else expects this to be a very close game. I am beyond exciting for it, let’s get to my preview:

Game Preview: East Carolina

Tags :

This week 6-2 (3-1) Tulsa hosts 3-5 (1-3) East Carolina. Both teams are coming off one of their best performances of the season. Tulsa defeated Memphis on the road 59-30, and East Carolina dismantled UConn 41-3. This one is a matchup between two offenses that can put up a lot of yards, and two below average defenses. It could shape up to be an exciting shootout, the line is Tulsa -8, with the over/under at 75!

ECU has a new head coach, and an air-raid passing attack. This should be a fun Saturday night football game in Tulsa, OK. Let’s get to my preview.
