Tulsa’s first opponent for the 2016 season is going to be without one of their top playmakers. As first reported by Mercury News, WR Tyler Winston will not play in the 2016 season due to academic reasons.

Winston was the 2013 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, and his 171 receptions are good for 3rd best in school history. In 2015 Winston led the team in receiving through 8 games, but was knocked out for the season with a knee injury versus New Mexico.

The Spartans will have to rely heavily on senior TE Billy Freeman for their passing attack. Freeman is preseason all-conference in the MWC, and he lead the Spartans in receiving in 2015.

San Jose State will travel to Tulsa on Saturday, September 3rd. Kickoff is 6:00 pm.
