Game Preview: Memphis

Tags :

This Wednesday the 7-7 (1-1) Tulsa Golden Hurricane will host the 12-4 (2-1) Memphis Tigers. Tulsa is coming into this game reeling a bit, losers of 3 of their last 4 games, including a close 61-64 loss to Houston last week, while Memphis, winners of 3 straight, seem to be playing their best basketball of the season. The Tigers thumped a good South Carolina team 70-56 to close nonconference play, and have followed that up with a 9 point win over UConn, and a 21 point beat down at Tulane.

Tulsa has an opportunity this weekend to capture their biggest win under Coach Montgomery’s reign. It is homecoming week at the University of Memphis, and the 5-2 (2-1) Tulsa Golden Hurricane are set to take on the 5-2 (2-1) Tigers.

This is a meeting between 2 teams tied for 2nd in the AAC West division, and it is a chance for Tulsa to make a statement about where we are at as a program. Let’s get to my preview.

Although the AAC is less talented at the top this season, it is now deeper than ever. The AAC had multiple wins vs Power 5 teams in the nonconference, and through 5 weeks, only 2 teams doesn’t have a winning record. Since it is October and we’ve seen every team at least 4 times, I wanted to take a look at how the AAC stacks up. The top of the conference is obvious, but the rest of the AAC has a lot of sorting out to do before December.
